Unisphere
The Unisphere was built for the 1964 World's Fair and is located in Flushing Meadows/Corona Park (I'm not sure why the park has two names). It was built right after the first man (Yuri Gagarin) was sent into space to orbit the Earth. Thus the Unisphere was created to commemorate the beginning of the "space age." It is made out of stainless steel and is about 12 stories high. In the summer time there are jet stream fountaints i It looks much bigger in person than it does in the picture!

If you maximize the photo, the size is more apparent. It's still in good shape, isn't it? Good photo since yesterday was United Nations Day.
I took many shots but chose this one mostly because of the cloud backdrop. And, yes, it still is in great shape actually. The reflecting pool undeneath the sphere was empty though, since it's gotten colder, but there are supposed to be fountain jet streams shooting up to cover the tripod on which the globe is stabilized on.

it's a shame that no one was passing by when you pressed the shutter, just to give an expression of the scale of this sculpture.
